Glass vanity jar, hallmarked silver top, hobnail cut glass
Hobnail cut glass dressing table pot or vanity jar with a hallmarked sterling silver lid. The silver was assayed in Birmingham in 1921.
The lid to this pot does have multiple dents but the jar retains a vintage charm, particularly contrasting the silver against the beautiful facets of the sharply cut crystal glass. Even the base is decorated with an engraved sunburst.
The jar is a good size, perfect for dressing table trinkets such as hairgrips, small pieces of jewellery or small cosmetics. It would also be large enough to store small items in the bathroom or even kitchen.
Unfortunately I have been unable to identify the maker. The first initial is "W" but I cannot quite make out the second initial. See photo.
Diameter 5.5cm/2.25 inches. Height to top of lid is 6.5 cm/is 7cm/2.6 inches.
Silver weight of the lid is 9g
The glass to this pot is in very good condition, with no cracks or chips. The lid is dented as described above, and the gilt lining to the inside is flaking. The maker's mark is a little rubbed but the rest of the hallmarks are crisp.
Please view the photographs carefully to ensure you are happy with the description and condition before bidding. I am always willing to answer queries and provide more photographs on request.
