Folio Society book Eminent Victorians was written by Lytton Strachey; a biography of 4 famous 19th century characters.
The book was first published in 1918 and the the first Folio Society edition was in 1967. This is a reproduction by photo-litho published in 1979.This is a hardback book in a slip cover comprising 285 pages of text including an introduction by W.S.F.B. The book covers are linen-bound in a golden brown with a tooled gilt diamond pattern to the covers. The slip cover is in a buff-coloured card with a corresponding pattern.
This book is an enjoyable read of the lives of four eminent Victorian characters; Cardinal Manning, Florence Nightingale, Dr Arnold, and General Gordon. The author is understood to write with a sardonic and wry wit and the book is said to have been highly popular at the time it was first released.
Condition is good, with no serious marks or scuffs to the book, there is a small patch of surface loss and some fading to the slip cover.
