"Medieval People" by Eileen Power, Folio Society book
Folio Society book "Medieval People" by Eileen Power, an illustrated history book first published in 1924.
The author was a don in political science at the London School of Economics. She attepts to show in this book medieval life through some historical sketches at every level of society, including peasants, traders, monks and even Marco Polo.
This is a hardback book in a slip cover comprising 253 pages of text and illustrations including an index and introduction by Emmanuel Le Roy Ladurie and a preface by M. M. Postan. This first Folio edition follows the 10th edition of the original with minor amendments, and was published in 1999. The cover is beautifully decorated in gilt medieval scenes on a cream hardback cover, and the slip cover is in strong blue cardboard.
This would be a fascinating insight into the English medieval period for the history student as well as historical interest for the general reader. Whatever, the look and feel of a nicely bound illustrated book like this makes a read a little bit more special.
Condition of the book is very good, with no significant or scuffs to the book. The slip cover is also in very good condition.
