Antique silver sugar tongs, London hallmarked, Victorian 1886
Victorian sterling silver sugar tongs or nips in a floral and cartouche pattern reflecting the naturalistic style of the age, dating to 1886.
The London hallmarked tongs are attractively monogrammed to the top cartouche, but I can't quite make out the letters other than the initial "M".
This is a very pretty pair of tongs in a superb heavy quality, being 27g (3/4 tr oz) in weight. They would be the perfect item for serving at Afternoon Tea (currently becoming very popular in the hotels and restaurants of the UK).
For some reason there is no maker's mark and I am not sure whether this has rubbed off or whether an extra band of silver has been added to strengthen the top of the tongs. Either way, they look great and are very robust.
The tongs are 10cm/4 inches long.
Overall condition of the tongs is very good. Just light surface scratches you would expect of any used item.
Postage will be by Signed and Tracked delivery.
